The Early - Christian tombs

Nis Christian tradition, which began as far as in the 4th century and continued when Constantine acknowledged Christianity, left in Nis numerous traces so that, from the period between 2nd and 4th Century, we find the remains of:

• The Early-Christian Basilica with a Martyrium in Jagodin Mala (The Martyrium and the ruins of the church represent a special cult structure where the relics and remains of Christian martyrs were kept)

• The Early-Christian tomb with frescoes (one of the rare painted tombs from this period; a monogram of Christ with a garland of palm leaves was painted on the tomb wall. It thus became one of the official landmarks of the City of Nis)

• The Early-Christian tomb with Christ monogram on the dome found in Jagodin Mala . After so many centuries the Christ monogram painted on the tomb dome still surprises us with its intensity, animation and quality of making.

• The Early-Christian tomb in Niska Banja (Nis Spa), next to the Institute “Radon”
